After Replacing A Lost Social Security Card

Once you have replaced your lost Social Security Card by following the advice on this blog, you need to protect yourself from losing it again, as your Social Security number is the number one way a crook can steal your identity.

• Never give out your full social security number over the phone. Most companies will only ever request the last four digits, and if they don’t, ask them why.
• Never carry your social security card in your wallet. You don’t need to.
• Shred any old documents that contain your social security number, and have documents that are in use, in a locked filing cabinet or drawer. Even put them in a safe if you have one.

All the Best
