After you have replaced your lost social security card, and looked at ways to prevent identity theft, you will probably want to do a check on your children’s social security numbers.
Why?
Because last year alone, there were almost 250,000 complaints made to the Federal Trade Commission concerning the identity theft of children.
Thieves are targeting children, because they know their crimes can go undetected for many years. Often parents do not find out about the crime until their teenager tries to get into college or get a job.
Read more about this growing phenomenon Here. And please remember to protect your kids’ identities by being just as vigilant about their security as your own.

After Replacing A Lost Social Security Card
Once you have replaced your lost Social Security Card by following the advice on this blog, you need to protect yourself from losing it again, as your Social Security number is the number one way a crook can steal your identity.
• Never give out your full social security number over the phone. Most companies will only ever request the last four digits, and if they don’t, ask them why.
• Never carry your social security card in your wallet. You don’t need to.
• Shred any old documents that contain your social security number, and have documents that are in use, in a locked filing cabinet or drawer. Even put them in a safe if you have one.

Replacing A Lost Social Security Card
As stated earlier you need to get the official form available at no cost. For full details on replacing a lost Social Security Card, see my previous post Here.
When I lost my Social Security Card over two years ago, I had no idea what to do. I also had no idea how vulnerable I was to identity theft, until it was too late. Make sure you educate yourself by reading up on Identity Theft.
You may well save yourself thousands of dollars, as well as a lot of heartache for many months.
Even now I’m finding it very difficult to start trusting people again. I’ve found that education is the best therapy though. Since I got everything sorted out and back to normal, six months ago, I’ve found out lots of information, and I’m a lot more prepared for preventing becoming a victim of identity theft again.
One of the most valuable things you can do to protect yourself, is to get inside the mind of an identity thief. Once you find out what it is they want most, you are best armed to protect yourself. If I had known a fraction of what Henry Tom has written in this Report, I would never have become a victim myself two years ago.
Make sure you read it, then act on all the advice given as soon as possible. Please don’t end up regretting that you didn’t educate yourself sooner. Because Identity Fraud may educate you soon enough.
Take care
